I dette arbeidet har vi presentert en metode for å syntetisere gull nanostars bruke sølv frø. Vi fant at sølv frø resulterte i en yield på 70% produksjon av nanostars. De fysiske, kjemiske og optiske egenskapene til nano-skala kolloider avhenge av deres materiale sammensetning, størrelse og form 1-5. Det er stor interesse for å bruke nano-kolloider for foto-termisk ablasjon, narkotika levering og mange andre biomedisinske applikasjoner 6. Gull er spesielt brukt på grunn av sin lave toksisitet 7-9. En eiendom av metall nano-kolloider er at de kan ha en sterk overflate plasmon resonans 10. Toppen av overflaten plasmon resonans modus avhengig av struktur og sammensetning av metall nano-kolloider. Siden overflaten plasmon resonans modus stimuleres med lys er det behov for å ha topp absorbansen i nær infrarødt hvor biologisk vev transmisjon er maksimalt 11, 12. Vi presenterer en metode for å syntetisere stjerne formet kolloidalt gull, også kjent som stjerne formet nanopartikler 13-15 eller nanostars 16. Denne metoden er basert på somolution inneholder sølv frø som blir brukt som nucleating agent for anisotrop vekst av gull kolloider 17-22. Scanning elektronmikroskopi (SEM) analyse av de resulterende gull kolloide viste at 70% av nanostrukturer var nanostars. De øvrige 30% av partiklene ble amorfe klynger av decahedra og rhomboids. Absorbansen Toppen av nanostars ble påvist å være i nær infrarødt (840 nm). Dermed produserer vår metode gull nanostars egnet for biomedisinske applikasjoner, spesielt for foto-termisk ablasjon.
