ovariectomy and 17&beta;-estradiol replacement in rats and mice: a visual demonstration

Østrogener er en familie af kvindelige kønshormoner med et usædvanligt bredt spektrum af effekter. Når rotter og mus anvendes i østrogen forskning er almindeligt ovarieektomiseret for at ablatere hurtigt cykling hormon produktionen erstatte 17β-estradiol eksogent. Der er dog mangel på konsensus om, hvordan det hormon bør gives for at opnå fysiologiske serumkoncentrationer. Det er afgørende, da 17β-østradiol-niveau / administration metode dybtgående indflydelse på de eksperimentelle resultater 1-3. Vi har i en række undersøgelser karakteriserede de forskellige former for 17β-estradiol administration, fandt, at subkutane silastik kapsler og per-oral møtrik-creme Nutella er bedre end kommercielt tilgængelige langsom frigivelse pellets (produceret af selskabet Innovative Research of America) og daglige injektioner i form af fremstilling fysiologiske serumkoncentrationer af 17β-estradiol 4-6. Blandt advantages af møtrik-creme metode, der tidligere er blevet anvendt til buprenorphin administration 7, er, at når der anvendes til administration af østrogen den ligner peroral hormonerstatningsterapi og er ikke-invasiv.
