Twee waaronder RPE65 genvervanging bij patiënten met congenitale amaurosis Leber en een RPE celtransplantatie met humane embryonale stamcellen (ES) cellen bij de ziekte van Stargardt. 3-4 Nu er gentherapievectoren en stamcellen voor behandeling van patiënten met retinale ziekten is het belangrijk te verifiëren deze potentiële therapieën in diermodellen voor toepassingden om in menselijke studies.
