Eksisterende retinale billeddiagnostiske metoder såsom fundus fotografering 1, konfokal scanning laser oftalmoskopi (cSLO) 2, og optisk kohærens tomografi (OCT) 3, har betydelige bidrag i overvågningen sygdom indledninger og progressioner, og udvikle nye terapeutiske strategier. Men de overvejende afhængige af back-reflekterede fotoner fra nethinden. Som følge heraf er de optiske absorptionsegenskaber af nethinden, som normalt stærkt associeret med retinal patofysiologi status, utilgængelige fra den traditionelle imagografiteknikker. Fotoakustisk oftalmoskopi (PAOM) er en ny retinal afbildningsmodalitet, der tillader detektion af de optiske absorptions kontraster i øjet med en høj følsomhed 4-7. I PAOM nanosecond laserimpulser leveres gennem pupillen og scannes over den bageste øjet at inducere fotoakustisk (PA) signaler, som detekteres af en ufokuseret ultralydtransducer fastgjort til øjenlåget. Desuden er den eneste eksisterende optiske absorption-baserede oftalmisk afbildningsmodalitet kan PAOM blive integreret med veletablerede kliniske ophthalmiske imaging techniques at opnå mere omfattende anatomiske og funktionelle evalueringer af øjet baseret på flere optiske kontraster 6,10. I dette arbejde, integrerer vi PAOM og spektral-domæne OCT (SD-OLT) til samtidig in vivo retinal billeddannelse af rotte, hvor både optisk absorption og spredning egenskaber af nethinden er afsløret. Figur 2 viser de 2-D fundus billeder af SD-OLT PAOM erhverves samtidig i en albinorotter (A og B) og en pigmenteret rotte (C og D) hhv. I SD-oktober fundus billeder (figur 2A og 2C), har retinale kar mørkt udseende på grund af hæmoglobin absorptionen af tast-lys.
