פלורסנט כלאה באתר באמצעות בדיקות DNA על 3-ממדי גרעינים נשמרו אחרי מיקרוסקופיה confocal 3D (דגי DNA 3D) מייצג את הדרך הישירה ביותר כדי לחזות את המיקום של לוקוסים גנטיים, כרומוזומלית תתי אזורים או שטחים שלמים בתאים בודדים. סוג זה של ניתוח מספק תובנה הארכיטקטורה העולמית של הגרעין, כמו גם את ההתנהגות של לוקוסים הגנומי ספציפיים ואזורים בתוך השטח הגרעיני.
