Flere nye behandlinger har nylig vist tidlig løfte innen SCI forskning. Den translasjonell potensialet for nye behandlinger bør utredes alvorlig ryggmargsskade (SCI) contusion modeller. En detaljert metode er beskrevet for å oppnå en konsistent modell av alvorlig SCI. Bruk av en stereotaktisk ramme og datastyrte nedslaget gir mulighet for etablering av reproduserbar skade. Nedkjøling og urinveisinfeksjon utgjøre betydelige utfordringer i den postoperative perioden. Nøye oppfølging av dyr med daglig vekt opptak og blære uttrykk åpner for tidlig deteksjon av postoperative komplikasjoner. Lesjon Volume Vi har oppnådd store og konsistent lesjon volumer ved å følge den teknikk som er beskrevet ovenfor.
