Homologe Rekombination ist für die Reparatur von Doppelstrangbrüchen (DSB) und Interstrang Vernetzungen und für die Wiederaufnahme der DNA-Replikation von eingestürzten Replikationsgabeln 1 wichtig. In konventionellen homologen Rekombination ist die zentrale Reaktion der ATP-abhängigen Rekombinasen wie RecA in Prokaryoten und Rad51 und Dmc1 in Eukaryonten 1-3 katalysiert wird. Diese Rekombinase bilden nucleoprotein Filamente auf ssDNA, die unerlässlich für die Einleitung Homologiesuche und Stranginvasion innerhalb duplex DNA-Templates (Abbildung 1, links) 4-7 sind. Wir haben zuvor die MGM101 Gen, das für die Aufrechterhaltung der mtDNA in Saccharomyces cerevisiae 15 identifiziert.
