Parabiose, de chirurgische samenvoegen van twee organismen, werd eerst beschreven in 1864 door Paul Bert als een manier om een model van gedeelde bloedsomloop kunnen bestuderen en bestond uit het verbinden van de huid en spieren wanden van twee ratten 1. Parabiose bevordert vorming van capillairen in de plaats van ontsteking 3 en verscheidene toepassingen in fysiologische studies, zoals hormonale communicatie tussen de hypofyse en de geslachtsklieren en de rol van de nier hypertensie 4 hadden. Het is verder gebruikt om de rekrutering en integratie van progenitorcellen onderzoeken neovascularisatie 5, migratie van hematopoietische stamcellen 6 en lymfocyttransport 7, alsmede de rol en kinetiek van circulerende inflammatoire of stamcellen in tumormetastase 8,9, en neurodegeneratieve ziekten 10. parabiosis in mice: a detailed protocol

Parabiose is een chirurgische vereniging van twee organismen waardoor delen van de bloedsomloop. Bevestiging van de huid van twee dieren bevordert vorming van microvasculatuur op de plaats van ontsteking. Parabiotic partners delen hun circulerende antigenen en dus vrij zijn van ongewenste immuunreactie. Voor het eerst beschreven door Paul Bert in 1864 1, werd de parabiose operatie verfijnd door Bunster en Meyer in 1933 naar dieroverleving 2 te verbeteren. In het huidige protocol, worden twee muizen operatief verbonden na een wijziging van de Bunster en Meyer techniek.
