Clostridium difficile är en grampositiv, sporbildande bakterie som är en obligat anaerob och en potentiellt livshotande gastrointestinal patogen för människor och djur. Clostridium difficile är en grampositiv, anaerob, sporogenic bakterie som är primärt ansvarig för antibiotikaassocierad diarré (AAD) och är en viktig nosokomial patogen. C. difficile är notoriskt svårt att isolera och odla och är extremt känslig för även låga halter av syre i miljön.
