SERGIS 기술은 박막 샘플의 다른 산란 또는 현미경 기술을 사용하여 접근 할 수없는 독특한 구조 정보를 얻을 수 있는 것을 목표로합니다. 현미경 검사법은 일반적으로 표면이 제한되거나 내부 구조를 보기 위해 상당한 변경/샘플 준비가 필요합니다. 반사도와 같은 종래의 산란 기술은 박막 내깊이의 함수로서 매장된 시료 구조에 대한 상세한 정보를 제공할 수 있지만 박막의 평면에서 구조를 쉽게 조사할 수는 없다. 궁극적으로 SERGIS는 박막 샘플 내에 묻혀있는 경우에도이 측면 구조를 조사 할 수 있기를 바랍니다. 여기에 제시된 대표적인 결과는 불규칙한 시료 피처로부터 SERGIS 신호를 관찰할 수 있으며, 측정된 신호가 종래의 현미경 기술에 의해 확인된 바와 같이 시료에 존재하는 특징적인 길이 스케일과 상관관계가 있을 수 있음을 보여준다.
비탄력적 스핀 에코 기술은 Mezei 외에 의해 개발되었다. 1970 년대에 1. 그 이후 SERGIS 기술(Mezei 외의아이디어의 연장선)은 고도로 규칙적인 회절 격자2-6 및 원형 드웨트 폴리머 방울7과같은 다양한 샘플을 성공적으로 사용하여 실험적으로 입증되었다. Pynn과 동료가 고도로 정규적인샘플3-6,8에서강한 산란을 모델링하기 위해 동적 이론이 개발되었습니다. 이 연구는 이러한 유형의 측정을 수행할 때 고려해야 할 많은 실용적인 측면을 강조했으며 소규모 다국적 커뮤니티 내에서 지속적인 대화를 이끌어 냈습니다.
