Hoewel beide ziekten daarmee soortgelijke symptomen bij de patiënt, de onderliggende mechanismen van plaque ontwikkeling en derhalve de behandeling benaderingen erg verschillend 2. In verschillende vormen van arteriële stenose klinische bevindingen bij de patiënten en de looptijd van plaqueontwikkeling afhankelijk van het onderliggende mechanisme. In geïndustrialiseerde landen blijft ischemische hartziekten een belangrijke oorzaak van sterfte 1. De oorzaken voor coronaire stenose zijn legio en omvatten myointimal hyperplasie evenals atherosclerose, met revascularisatie resterende de meest voorkomende behandeling strategie 2. Onderzoek modellen duidelijk onderscheid tussen de mechanistische paden van intimale hyperplasie en atherosclerose zijn essentieel voor de pathobiological en pathofysiologische processen arteriële plaque ontwikkeling te onderzoeken. In deze video twee verschillende muismodellen gebruikt om ofwel de ontwikkeling van myointimal hyperplasie of atherosclerose te bestuderen worden geïntroduceerd. Diverse in vivo laboratorium knaagdiermodellen voor de inductie van slagader stenose zijn ingesteld om ziekten die arteriële plaque vorming en vernauwing bevatten zoals waargenomen bijvoorbeeld ischemische hartziekte nabootsen. Twee zeer reproduceerbaar muismodellen - zowel resulterend in stenose, maar elke onderliggende waarde een andere weg van ontwikkeling - worden hier geïntroduceerd.
