Arbejde med smitsomme Ebola-virus er begrænset til biosikkerhed niveau 4 laboratorier. Tetracistronic minigenomplasmiderne-holdige replikation og transkription-kompetent viruslignende partikler (trVLPs) udgør et livscyklus modellering system, der giver os mulighed for sikkert at modellere flere smitsomme cyklusser under biosikkerhed niveau 2 betingelser, bygger udelukkende på Ebola-virus komponenter.
