תיקון ניתוחי בקע מחייבת לעתים קרובות גישור מכני של הפגם בחומר מושתל. בהקשר זה, חומרים סינתטיים וטבעיים שימשו עבור תיקון בקע. חומרים סינתטיים רבים הם בדרך כלל נספגים, וכוללים פוליפרופילן פוליאתילן terephthalate פוליאסטר, טפלון המורחב, בעוד אחרים שתלים סינטטיים לשלב אחד החומרים נספגים עם שנספג פולימרי כגון polygalactine. 1 לעומת זאת, שתלים חומרים טבעיים בדרך כלל נגזרים ממקורות cadaveric בעלי חיים או בני אדם. חומרים טבעיים המשמשים תיקון בקע עשירים בדרך כלל קולגן ולפעול בדומה לפיגום עבור ingrowth ושילוב של רקמות הפונדקאי.
