Измерения вихря и вращения частиц в турбулентном потоке жидкости уже давно признаны в качестве важных целей в экспериментальной механике жидкости. Вращение твердого тела маленьких сфер в турбулентности равна половине завихренности жидкости, но осевую симметрию сфер сделала прямое и...

В недавней публикации, мы ввели использование частиц , изготовленных из нескольких тонких рук для измерения вращательного движения частиц в условиях турбулентности 1. Эти частицы могут быть изготовлены с использованием 3D-принтеры, и можно точно измерить их положение, ориентацию, и скорость вращения с помощью нескольких камер. Использование инструментов от стройной теории тела, можно показать , что эти частицы имеют соответствующие эффективные эллипсоиды 2, а вращательные движения этих частиц идентичны таковым из их соответствующих эффективных эллипсоидов. Частицы с симметричными руками одинаковой длины вращаются как сферы. Одним из таких частиц является домкрат, который имеет три взаимно перпендикулярные руки, присоединенные в его центре. Регулировка относительных длин плеч домкрата может сформировать эквивалент частиц к любому трехосного эллипсоида. Если длина одного плеча устанавливается равным нулю, это создает крест, чей эквивалентный эллипсоид представляет собой диск. Частицы, изготовленные из тонкихРуки занимают небольшую часть твердого объема их твердых эллипсоидальных аналогов. В результате, они осадке медленнее, что делает их легче, чтобы соответствовать плотности. Это позволяет исследовать гораздо более крупных частиц, чем удобно с твердыми частицами эллипсоида. Кроме того, процедура может быть проведена при значительно более высоких концентраций частиц, так как частицы блокируют меньшую часть света от других частиц. В данной работе, методы изготовления и отслеживания 3D печатных частиц документированы. Инструменты для отслеживания поступательное движение сферических частиц с позиций частиц , как видно несколькими камерами, были разработаны несколько групп 3,4. Парса и др. 5 распространил этот подход для отслеживания стержней с использованием положения и ориентации стержней видели несколькими камерами. Здесь приведены способы изготовления частиц самых разнообразных форм и реконструкции их 3D ориентации. Это дает тысе возможность расширить 3D отслеживание частиц со сложными формами для широкого спектра новых приложений. Эта техника имеет большой потенциал для дальнейшего развития из-за широкого диапазона форм частиц, которые могут быть разработаны. Многие из этих форм имеют прямое применение в экологических потоках, где планктон, семена и кристаллы льда приходят в широкий спектр форм. Связи между поворотами частиц и фундаментальных мелкомасштабных свойств турбулентных течений 6 показывают , что изучение вращений этих частиц обеспечивает новые способы смотреть на турбулентном каскадного процесса.

Экспериментальные методы представлены для измерения вращательного и поступательного движения анизотропных частиц в турбулентных потоках жидкости. Технология 3D печать используется для изготовления частиц с тонкими руками, соединенных в едином центре. Формы изученными являются кресты (два перпендикулярных стержней), домкраты (три перпендикулярных стержней), триадами (три стержней в треугольной плоской симметрии) и тетрад (четыре руки в тетраэдрической симметрии). Способы получения от порядка 10000 флуоресцентно окрашенная частиц описаны. Время-разрешенные измерения их ориентации и скорости вращения твердого тела получаются из четырех синхронизированных видео их движения в турбулентном потоке между колеблющейся решетки с R λ = 91. В этом относительно низкорейнольдсовых потока чисел, то адвектируется частицы достаточно малы что они приблизительно эллипсоидальные маркерные частицы. Представлены результаты времяразрешенных 3D траекторий положения и ориентации частиц, кака также измерения их скорости вращения.
