La simmetria sferica permette la separazione in senso radiale e dipendenze angolari. La soluzione radiale è data da funzioni di Bessel, quelli angolari dalle armoniche sferiche 8. Vetro di silice è centrosimmetriche e, di conseguenza, secondo i fenomeni di ordine legate alla Χ (2) le interazioni sono vietati. Alla superficie della microsfera, l&#39;inversione di simmetria è rotta e Χ (2) fenomeni può osservare 1. Tuttavia, le condizioni di accordo di fase per la generazione di frequenza secondo ordine sono più problematiche rispetto all&#39;equivalente in terza generazione di frequenza dell&#39;ordine, soprattutto perché le lunghezze d&#39;onda coinvolte sono molto diverse e il ruolo della dispersione può essere molto importante. Il secondo ordine interazioni sono estremamente deboli.
