Målet med denne fremgangsmåde er at isolere vaskulære glatte muskelceller (VSMC) fra det murine koronar omsætning til anvendelse i cellekultur og standard celledyrkningsassays. Vi udviklede denne teknik til at vurdere de molekylære mekanismer i vaskulær remodellering ved diabetes. Vi har tidligere rapporteret indad hypertrofisk remodellering i den septale koronararterioler i db / db musemodel for diabetes 1. På grund af den begrænsede mængde væv findes i de murine septumdefekter blodpropper, standard eksperimentelle teknikker, der undersøger protein ændringer (f.eks Western blot) i db / db mus og kontrolmus er vanskelige i bedste.
