På den anden side, ambulante undersøgelser vurdering på stress-reducerende effekt af musiklytning - især de omfattende både psykologiske såvel som fysiologiske indikatorer for stress - er meget sjældne. Vi har tidligere vist i two ambulante undersøgelser vurdering, at musik lytter er forbundet med en stress-reducerende effekt hos raske deltagere 19, 20. I modsætning til disse fund hos raske unge voksne, var vi ikke i stand til at finde en stress-reducerende effekt af musik lytter i en patientprøve 21. Det er således af særlig betydning for at studere virkningerne af musik lytter i dagligdagen ved hjælp af ambulant vurdering, da denne fremgangsmåde giver en undersøgelse af en bred vifte af situationer, hvor musik lytning forekommer med høj tidsmæssig opløsning (i forhold til en kunstig situation i et eksperiment) og høj ekstern validitet.
