cuidado de la salud oral juega un papel importante en la prevención de infecciones oportunistas y la neumonía por aspiración en los ancianos físicamente vulnerable. Cuidado de la salud oral, que consiste en el cepillado después de cada comida, la limpieza de las dentaduras postizas, y recibir servicios de salud bucal profesional, juega un papel vital en la reducción de la incidencia de estas enfermedades 1-3. En particular, la mala higiene oral está fuertemente asociado con la neumonía por aspiración en los ancianos vulnerables físicamente. Por lo tanto, más atención debe prestarse a la atención de la salud oral de los pacientes de edad avanzada, que tienen una capacidad limitada para limpiar sus dentaduras por sí mismos 4. Incluso en los países desarrollados, el uso de acrílicos, prótesis dentales removibles con base de resina sigue siendo la opción de tratamiento más común para los pacientes ancianos desdentados 5. Dada su alta capacidad de absorción de agua, superficie microporosa, y la naturaleza hidrofóbica, dentadura a base de acrílico construyen a partir de polimetilmetacrilato (PMMA) se acumulan fácilmente la placa dental en sus superficies, que se llama la placa de la dentadura. 2-metacriloiloxietil fosforilcolina (MPC) polímeros son materiales poliméricos biomédicas conocidas 6 que tienen notable antitrombogenicidad y compatibilidad con los tejidos debido a su alta resistencia a la adsorción de proteínas y la adhesión celular 7-11. Revestimientos de polímero MPC se han aplicado en diversos dispositivos médicos para prevenir la infección 12 y se han sugerido para tener el potencial de prevenir la acumulación de placa en las superficies de la dentadura de prótesis de PMMA 13. El reto en la aplicación clínica de polímeros MPC a PMMA dentaduras es fiable se unen a las superficies de PMMA de una manera sencilla y estable. Anteriormente, se informó de polímeros MPC estar ligado de forma estable a las superficies de PMMA por una técnica de injerto y tener el potencial para inhibir la acumulación de placa. Sin embargo, la técnica de injerto no es simple y requiere un equipo especializado, WHIch hace difícil su aplicación clínica. Aquí, se describe un nuevo procedimiento de recubrimiento MPC que utiliza polímeros específicamente fosfolípidos fotorreactivos, un derivado de metacrilato de fotorreactivo, 2-metacriloiloxietil-4-azidobenzoate (mpaz) -synthesized para llevar a cabo una variedad de modificaciones de la superficie de diferentes tipos de materiales. Mpaz fue co-polimerizado con polímeros MPC y metacrilato de n-butilo (BMA) para producir poli (MPC- co -BMA- co -MPAz) (PMBPAz). PMBPAz puede unirse covalentemente a las superficies de las prótesis de PMMA través de la activación de los grupos azida en mpaz bajo irradiación ultravioleta (UV) 14. El procedimiento no requiere ningún equipo especializado y puede ser completado por los médicos dentro de 2 min. 2-methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine polymer treatment of complete dentures to inhibit denture plaque deposition

Removable dentures made of poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) are prone to bacterial adherence and dental plaque formation, which is called denture plaque. Denture plaque-associated infection is a source of serious dental and medical complications in the elderly. 2-Methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine (MPC) is a well-known biomedical material that exhibits marked antithrombogenicity and tissue compatibility because of its high resistance to protein adsorption and cell adhesion. Therefore, MPC polymer coatings are suggested to have the potential to inhibit plaque deposition on the surface of PMMA dentures. However, coating MPC polymer on the surface of a PMMA denture is a complex procedure that requires specialized equipment, which is regarded as a major barrier to its clinical application. 
Here, we introduce a new MPC polymer treatment procedure that uses poly (MPC-co-BMA-co-MPAz) (PMBPAz) to prevent denture plaque deposition on removable dentures. This procedure enables the MPC coating of PMMA denture surfaces in a simple and stable manner that is resistant to various chemical and mechanical stresses due to the MPC layer of PMBPAz that is covalently bound to the PMMA surface by ultraviolet light irradiation. In addition, the procedure does not require any specialized equipment and can be completed by clinicians within 2 min. We applied this procedure in a clinical setting and demonstrated its clinical utility and efficacy in inhibiting plaque deposition on removable dentures.
