Aunque el pez cebra salvaje poseen un sistema de determinación del sexo / ZW ZZ, pez cebra domesticado han perdido el cromosoma sexual. Ellos utilizan un sistema de determinación del sexo poligénica, donde varios genes distribuidos en todo el genoma determinar colectivamente las identidades sexuales de peces individuales.
