Alcoholische leverziekte (ALD), die wordt veroorzaakt door overconsumptie van alcohol, is een belangrijke oorzaak van alcoholgerelateerde morbiditeit en sterfte. In de Verenigde Staten betreffen bijna de helft van de leverziekte de alcohol 1 , en ALD is verantwoordelijk voor bijna 1 op 3 levertransplantaties 2 . ALD heeft een breed spectrum. Steatose, die wordt gekenmerkt door overmatige lipide accumulatie in hepatocyten, komt voor in het vroege stadium van zwaar drinken en is omkeerbaar bij stopzetting van alcoholgebruik. Onder invloed van genetische en omgevingsfactoren en voortdurende alcoholinname kan hepatische steatosis zich verder ontwikkelen tot alcoholische hepatitis en uiteindelijk cirrose 3 . Ethanol kan direct aan het water toegevoegd worden, en blootstelling aan 2% ethanol gedurende 24 uur is voldoende om hepatische steatosis en fibrogenische reacties in zebravis larven 13 , 15 te induceren. Het confocale beeldvorming van de fluorescerende transgene zebravis kan echter niet volledig vervangen worden door hematoxyline en Eosin (H &amp; E) kleuring bij het bestuderen van leverhistologie. histological analyses of acute alcoholic liver injury in zebrafish

Alcoholische Leverziekte (ALD) verwijst naar schade aan de lever door acute of chronische alcoholmisbruik. Het is een van de belangrijkste oorzaken van alcoholgerelateerde morbiditeit en sterfte en treft meer dan 2 miljoen mensen in de Verenigde Staten. Een beter begrip van de cellulaire en moleculaire mechanismen die aan alcoholgeïnduceerde leverschade liggen, is van cruciaal belang voor het ontwikkelen van een effectieve behandeling voor ALD. Zebravislarven vertoonden hepatische steatosis en fibrogenese na 24 uur blootstelling aan 2% ethanol, waardoor ze nuttig zijn voor de studie van acute alcoholische leverletsel. Dit werk beschrijft de procedure voor acute ethanolbehandeling bij zebravislarven en laat zien dat het leverkleuren en zwelling van de bloedvaten veroorzaakt.
