Bacteriële symbionten vormen een intieme relatie met hun gastheren en geven in de meeste gevallen voordelen aan de gastheren. Genomische informatie is cruciaal om de functies en evolutie van bacteriële symbionten in hun gastheer te bestuderen. Aangezien de meeste symbionten niet in vitro kunnen worden gekweekt, zijn methoden om een ​​adequate hoeveelheid bacteriën te isoleren voor genoom sequencing zeer belangrijk. In de Whitefly Bemisia tabaci zijn een aantal endosymbionten geïdentificeerd en wordt voorspeld dat ze belangrijk zijn bij de ontwikkeling en voortplanting van de plaag door meerdere benaderingen. Endosymbiont-monsters bereid volgens deze werkwijze, hoewel nog steeds een mengsel van verschillende endosymbiont-soorten, zijn geschikt voor latere genoomsequencing en analyse van de mogelijke rollen van endosymbionten in B. tabaci .
