Flere animalske rygmarvs-iskæmimodeller er blevet introduceret for at undersøge dets patogenese og udforme beskyttelsesstrategier mod skaden. Under en periode med rygmarvs-iskæmi blev aortisk okklusion udført i 9 minutter (n = 3), 10 min (n = 3) eller 11 min (n = 3). Motorunderskuddet i rotter er vist i tabel 2.
