Polytrimethylenterephthalat ist ein biologisch abbaubarer Polyester, der bessere Eigenschaften aufweist als die von 1,2-Propandiol, Butandiol oder Ethylenglykol 1 . 1,3-propandiol wird von K. pneumoniae unter Verwendung von Glycerin als Substrat in sauerstoffbeschränkten Bedingungen hergestellt 2 . 2,3-Butandiol und seine Derivate haben Anwendungen auf dem Gebiet der Kunststoffe, der Lösemittelherstellung und des synthetischen Kautschuks und haben das Potential, als Biokraftstoff verwendet zu werden 3 .
