fabrication of polymer microspheres for optical resonator and laser applications

Dette papir beskriver tre metoder for fremstilling av fluorescerende mikrosfærer omfattende π-konjugerte eller ikke-konjugerte polymerer: dampdiffusjon, grensesnittutfelling og mini-emulsjon. I alle metoder oppnås veldefinerte mikrometer-størrelse sfærer fra en selvmonteringsprosess i løsning. Dampdiffusjonsmetoden kan resultere i sfærer med høyeste sfærisk og overflatejevnhet, men de typer polymerene som er i stand til å danne disse sfærene er begrenset. På den annen side, i mini-emulsjonsmetoden, kan mikrosfærer fremstilles av forskjellige typer polymerer, selv fra høyt krystallinske polymerer med koplanare, π-konjugerte backbones. De fotoluminescerende (PL) egenskapene fra enkelt-isolerte mikrosfærer er uvanlige: PL er begrenset inne i kulene, propagerer i kuleområdets omkrets via den totale interne refleksjonen ved polymer / luftgrensesnittet og forstyrrer selv å skarp og periodisk resonans PL linjer. Disse resonatineneG moduser er såkalte &quot;hviske galleri moduser&quot; (WGMs). Dette arbeidet viser hvordan man måler WGM PL fra enkelt isolerte sfærer ved hjelp av mikrofotoluminescens (μ-PL) teknikken. I denne teknikken bestråler en fokusert laserstråle en enkelt mikrosfære, og luminescensen detekteres av et spektrometer. En mikromanipuleringsteknikk brukes da til å koble mikrosfærene en etter en og å demonstrere intersphere PL-forplantning og fargekonvertering fra koblede mikrosfærer ved eksitering ved periferien av en sfære og deteksjon av PL fra den andre mikrosfæren. Disse teknikkene, μ-PL og mikromanipulering, er nyttige for eksperimenter på mikrooptisk applikasjon ved anvendelse av polymermaterialer.

Figur 1 viser skjematiske representasjoner av dampdiffusjonsmetoden (a), mini-emulsjonsmetoden (b) og grensesnittutfellingsmetoden (c). For dampdiffusjonsmetoden ( figur 1a ) ble et 5 ml hetteglass inneholdende en CHCl3-oppløsning av polymerer (0,5 mg ml -1 , 2 ml) plassert i et 50 ml hetteglass inneholdende 5 ml et ikke-løsningsmiddel, så som MeOH .
