CO2 -emissioner og den deraf følgende globale opvarmning er kritiske miljøspørgsmål, der har tiltrukket sig en stor mængde forskning i de seneste år. CO2-opsamling og -lagring (CCS) har været anerkendt som en potentiel teknologi for at reducere CO2 -emissioner til atmosfæren1,2. Den mest udfordrende del af CCS-kæden er erobringen af CO2, som også er den mest kostbare fase3. Følgelig har der været fokus på at udvikle nye teknologier til CO2 -opsamling fra kraftværker og andre industrielle anlæg.
CaL som en efterbrænding CO2 -opsamling teknologi, blev først foreslået af Shimizu et al. 4 CO2 er fanget af en CaO-baserede sorptionsmiddel på 600-700 ° C i en reaktor kaldes en carbonator, og udgivet af efterfølgende kalcinering på 850-950 ° C (i en calciner) Ifølge Eq. (1), til at producere en høj renhed CO2 stream egnet til forvaring5,6. Dette begreb er blevet påvist i pilotstørrelse af forskellige grupper og med forskellige konfigurationer og skalaer, såsom 0.2 MWth piloten i Stuttgart, 1 MWth piloten i Darmstadt, de 1,7 MWth pilot i La Pereda og den 1.9 MWth enhed i Taiwan9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16. Selvom denne proces har bevist, er der stadig muligheder for at øge dens termisk effektivitet, som ved at ændre standard driftsbetingelser og ændringer i design af reaktoren konfiguration.
Brugen af varmerør mellem forbrændingskammer og calciner er blevet undersøgt i stedet for oxy-forbrænder brændstof i calciner. Resultaterne for CO2 -opsamling resultater er sammenlignelige med dem af en konventionel CaL pilot-anlæg, men denne proces har højere plante effektivitet og lavere CO2 undgåelse koster17. Martínez et al. 18 undersøgt varme integration muligheder for at forvarme solid materialet ind i calciner og reducere varmen i calciner. Resultaterne viste 9% reduktion i kulforbrug sammenlignet med de standard-sagen. Andre undersøgte mulighederne for varme integration har også overvejet interne og eksterne integration muligheder19.
En af de største problemer i CaL cyklussen fra et økonomisk synspunkt er at levere den energi, der i calciner med brændstof forbrænding20. Øge koncentrationen af ilt i den calciner inlet er foreslået for at reducere eller endog undgå brug af CO2 genanvende til calciner. Dette alternativ reducerer kapitalomkostninger (reduceret størrelse af calciner og luft adskillelse enheder (ASU)), der kan forbedre konkurrenceevnen i denne proces. Den drastiske ændring i forbraendingsbetingelser kan nås ved at udnytte endoterm kalcinering reaktion og den store CaO/CaCO3 flow cirkulerende fra carbonator opererer ved lavere temperaturer (hverken fordel er tilgængelig med den oxy-forbrænding teknologi).
Dette arbejde sigter mod at udvikle en standardprocedure for at køre en CaL pilotanlæg med en cirkulerende fluidiserede seng (CFB) carbonator og en boblende fluidiserede seng (BFB) calciner med 100% O2 koncentrationen i den calciner inlet. Flere eksperimentelle kampagner har kørt under idrifttagning af pilotanlægget at sikre velfungerende som oxygen koncentrationen øges. Også, tre kalksten partikel størrelse distributioner (100-200 µm; 200-300 µm, 300-400 µm) blev undersøgt for at undersøge hvordan denne parameter påvirker elutriation af partikler og fange effektivitet i denne driftstilstand.

Calcium looping (CaL) er en efterbrænding CO2 capture-teknologi, der er egnet til eftermontering eksisterende kraftværker. CaL processen bruger kalksten som en billig og let tilgængelig CO2 sorptionsmiddel.
