MDPs יש מגוון רחב של השפעות ביולוגיות כגון הגנה על הנוירונים מפני אפופטוזיס, שיפור סמנים מטבוליים, הגנה על תאים מכימותרפיה. Humanin היה MDP הראשון להתגלות, פפטיד הכי נחקרות בקרב משפחת MDP. קולטני ממברנה ואת הזרם איתות המסלולים של humanin יש בקפידה מלווה. MDPs נוספים כגון MOTS-c ו- SHLP1-6 התגלו לאחרונה, מנגנוני איתות שעדיין לא להיות הובהר. כאן נתאר שיטת תרבות המבוססת תא כדי לקבוע את הפונקציה של פפטידים אלה. בפרט, מאפשרים תא טכניקות fractionation בשילוב עם סופג המערבי הקביעה כמותית של ההפעלה, טרנסלוקציה של מולקולת איתות חשוב. אמנם יש שיטות אחרות של תא fractionation, המתואר כאן היא שיטה פשוטה וקלה. שיטות אלה ניתן להבהיר עוד יותר את מנגנון הפעולה של פפטידים אלה וסוכנים טיפוליים אחרים.
