צבגון אדום-צבים (Trachemys scripta elegans), נחשב לאחד מין פולש הכי גרוע בעולם,1 , ניתן לציין כי המערכת האקולוגית היא בצרות. הסיבה למה צבים צבגון אדום-הם כל כך מוצלח הוא ממעטים להבין אבל זה יכול להיות באופן חלקי בגלל שלהם פיזיולוגיה סובלנית ואחזקה של רקמות עצבים שיכולים לשרוד תחת תנאים ובשפתיים2,3,4 . באמצעות אותם ניסויים אינו מאיים על מספרם, עם מאמץ מינימלי, ההכנות אלקטרופיזיולוגיות יכול להישאר בר קיימא על משכים מורחבת, עוד 18 שעות5,6. היתרון הוא דומה היתרון בשימוש בעלי חיים כגון סרטני7, אשר יש גם את היכולת לעמוד רמות נמוכות של חמצן8.
