تطوير ممارسات تربية الأسماك المختبر غير النموذجية المستخدمة لأغراض تجريبية قد استفاد كثيرا من إنشاء مرجع الأسماك نظم نموذجية، مثل الزرد والميداكا. في السنوات الأخيرة، اعتمد أسماك ناشئة – killifish الفيروز (فورزيري نوثوبرانتشيوس) – بعدد متزايد من المجموعات البحثية في المجالات البيولوجيا الشيخوخة والإيكولوجيا. مع فترة حياة الأسير من 4-8 شهور، هذه الأنواع هي فقاريات شورتيستليفيد التي أثيرت في الأسر ويسمح المجتمع العلمي للاختبار – في وقت قصير – التدخلات التجريبية التي يمكن أن تؤدي إلى تغييرات معدل الشيخوخة ومتوسط العمر المتوقع. نظراً لبيولوجيا فريدة من نوعها لهذه الأنواع، وتميزت ديبوس الجنينية، النضج الجنسي المتفجرة، تميز مظهري الجنسي المورفولوجية والسلوكية-وفترة حياتها قصيرة نسبيا الكبار-تربية المخصصة الممارسات في العاجلة الطلب. ويفيد هذا البروتوكول مجموعة من التدابير الرئيسية تربية تسمح killifish الفيروز الأمثل مختبر الرعاية، وتمكين المجتمع العلمي على اعتماد هذه الأنواع كنموذج حيوانات مختبرية قوية.

نتائج تربية سليمة killifish الفيروز في متوسط بقاء تتراوح ما بين 12-18 أسبوعا في سلالة جرز (مثل الشكل 4A). التغيرات في متوسط بقاء تعتمد على النظام الغذائي والتغذية التردد، ودرجة الحرارة ظروف السكن. نتائج تربية الفقراء في منحنيات البقاء على قيد الحياة تقديم زيادة الوفيات المبكرة وقطرات المفاجئة المتكررة، والبقاء على قيد الحياة طوال الوقت، تتميز بعدة نقاط الانعطاف (الشكل 4 باء).
