Dit protocol laat ons toe om op te lossen ultrasnelle vibrationele dynamica in polyatomisch radicale caties via selectieve voorbereiding van de ionen in de elektronische grondtoestand. Terwijl de standaard sterk-veld ionisatie-procedure met behulp van 800 nm kunt bereiden vibrationele samenhangen in grond-elektronische staat radicale caties van de eerste rij diatomics10,11,12,13 en CO 2</s...

Sinds de uitvinding van de laser in de jaren 1960, het doel van het selectief breken chemische bindingen in de moleculen een jarenlange droom van chemici en fysici. De mogelijkheid om te stemmen zowel laser frequentie en intensiteit werd verondersteld om directe splitsing van een obligatie doel via selectieve energie absorptie bij de bijbehorende vibrationele frequentie1,2,3,4 . Eerste experimenten vonden echter dat intramoleculaire vibrationele herverdeling van de opgenomen energie in het molecuul vaak in niet-selectieve splitsing van de zwakste bond4,5 resulteerde. Het was niet tot de ontwikkeling van femtoseconde pulsed lasers en de pomp-sonde techniek6 in de late jaren 1980 die directe manipulatie van coherente vibrationele Staten en/of "golf pakketten", ingeschakeld succesvolle controle over bond decollete en andere doelstellingen6,7,8. Pomp-sonde metingen, waarin de "pomp" pols bereidt een geëxciteerde toestand of ion dat vervolgens door een puls van de tijd-delayed "probe opgewekt is", blijven een van de meest gebruikte technieken voor de studie van de ultrasnelle processen in moleculen9, 10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18, 19,20.
Een belangrijke beperking tot het bestuderen van de ultrasnelle dissociatie dynamiek van polyatomisch radicale caties met behulp van pomp-sonde excitatie gekoppeld aan massaspectrometrische detectie vloeit uit de opvangfaciliteiten versnippering van de doelmolecule door de ioniserende pomp voort Pulse bij de golflengte van de Ti:Sapphire van 800 nm21,-22,23. Deze overtollige fragmentatie voortvloeit uit nonadiabatic multiphoton ionisatie en kan worden opgevangen door een verschuiving van de golflengte van excitatie in de nabij-infrarood (bv., 1200-1500 nm)22,23,24, 25. Bij deze langere golflengten, de bijdrage van adiabatische electron tunneling stijgt ten opzichte van multiphoton excitatie in de ionisatie proces22,23. Weinig overtollige energie tot en met de molecuul en vormen voornamelijk "koud" grondtoestand moleculaire ionen19,22,23adiabatische tunneling worden doorgegeven. Onze vorige werk heeft aangetoond dat het gebruik van het nabij-infraroodspectrum excitatie aanzienlijk het opstellen van coherente vibrationele excitaties, of "Golf packets", in polyatomisch radicale caties in vergelijking met 800 nm excitatie19verbetert, 20. Dit werk zal illustreren het verschil tussen de sterk-veld ionisatie gedomineerd door multiphoton en tunneling bijdragen met pomp-sonde metingen op de chemical warfare agent simulant Dimethylmethylfosfonaat (DMMP) met behulp van 1500 nm en 800 nm pomp golflengten.
In onze pomp-sonde experimenten is een paar ultrakorte laserpulsen tijd-vertraagd, gerecombineerde en geconcentreerd in een massaspectrometer time-of-flight, zoals aangegeven in onze opstelling in Figuur 1. Deze experimenten vereisen een Ti:Sapphire regeneratieve versterker produceren > 2 mJ, 800 nm, 30 fs pulsen. De uitgang van de versterker is verdeeld over een 90:10 (% R: %T) balk splitter, waar de meeste van de energie wordt gebruikt om de pomp een optische parametrische versterker (OPA) voor generatie van 1200-1600 nm, 100-300 µJ, 20-30 fs pulsen. De diameter van de IR-straal pomp is uitgebreid tot 22 mm en de diameter van de 800 nm sonde lichtbundel down-collimated tot 5,5 mm en gevulde met behulp van een iris. Deze collimations resulteert in de pomp lichtbundel richten aan een aanzienlijk kleinere lichtbundel taille (9 µm) dan de sonde bundel (30 µm), waardoor ervoor wordt gezorgd dat alle ionen gevormd tijdens de ioniserende pomp pols zijn opgewonden door de tijd-delayed sonde pols. Deze configuratie wordt gebruikt omdat het doel van onze experimenten is om de sonde van de dynamiek van de bovenliggende molecuulion, die zelfs bij lagere intensiteiten in de buurt van de randen van de gerichte lichtbundel kan worden gevormd. Wij stellen vast dat als de dynamiek van meer zeer opgewonden Ionische soorten van belang zijn, dan de diameter van de lichtbundel sonde dienstig is kleiner dan die van de pomp.
De pomp en sonde pulsen collinearly propageren en in de regio van de extractie van een Wiley-McLaren massaspectrometer time-of-flight (TOF-MS)26 (Figuur 2) zijn gericht. Moleculaire monsters geplaatst in een flesje zijn gekoppeld aan de inlaat en opengesteld voor het vacuüm. Deze setup vereist dat het molecuul onderzochte hebben een niet-nulzijnde dampdruk; voor moleculen met laag dampdruk, kan de flacon worden verwarmd. De stroom van gasvormige monster in de zaal wordt gecontroleerd door twee variabele lek kleppen. Het monster treedt de kamer door middel van een 1/16" roestvrij staal buis ongeveer 1 cm afstand van de laser focus (Figuur 2) teneinde te komen tot een lokaal hoge concentratie van de doelmolecule in de extractie regio27. De winning plaat heeft een gleuf van 0.5 mm georiënteerde loodrecht op de laser-propagatie en ion-paden. Omdat de Rayleigh-bereik van de lichtbundel van de pomp ongeveer 2 mm is, fungeert deze gleuf als een filter, zodat alleen de ionen die zijn gegenereerd op basis van het centrale focal volume waarbij de intensiteit is hoogste de winning plaat28passeren. De ionen Voer een 1 m drift veld-gratis buis om te bereiken van de Z-gap micro kanaal plaat (MCP) detector29, waar ze ontdekt en geregistreerd met een 1 GHz digitale oscilloscoop debiet herhaling 1 kHz van typische commerciële Ti:Sapphire lasers.

measurement of ultrafast vibrational coherences in polyatomic radical cations with strong-field adiabatic ionization

We presenteren een pomp-sonde-methode voor de voorbereiding van de vibrationele samenhangen in polyatomisch radicale caties en indringende hun ultrasnelle dynamica. Door een verschuiving van de golflengte van de sterk-veld ioniseren pomp puls van de veel gebruikte 800 nm in het nabij-infrarood (1200-1600 nm), de bijdrage van adiabatische electron tunneling aan het proces van ionisatie verhoogt ten opzichte van multiphoton absorptie. Adiabatische ionisatie resulteert in overheersende bevolking van de elektronische grondtoestand van het ion na verwijdering van de elektronen, die daadwerkelijk een coherente vibrationele staat ("Golf packet") vatbaar voor latere excitatie bereidt. In onze experimenten, de coherente vibrationele dynamiek zijn gesondeerd met een zwakke-veld 800 nm puls en de opbrengsten van de tijd-afhankelijke dissociatie vanproducten gemeten in een time-of-flight massaspectrometer. Met een factor 10 in vergelijking met 800 nm pulsen presenteren we de metingen op de molecule Dimethylmethylfosfonaat (DMMP) om te illustreren hoe met behulp van 1500 nm pulsen voor excitatie verhoogt de amplitude van coherente oscillaties in ion opbrengsten. Dit protocol kan worden uitgevoerd in bestaande pomp-sonde opstellingen door middel van de opneming van een optische parametrische versterker (OPA) voor de omrekening van de golflengte.

Resultaten voor de molecuul DMMP21 worden gepresenteerd. Figuur 3 toont de DMMP massaspectra genomen op nul vertraging met de intensiteiten van de piek van de pomp 1500 nm en 800 nm sonde pulsen worden 8 x 10,13 en 8 x 1012 W cm-2, respectievelijk.
