מודלים בעלי חיים מספקים שפלטפורמה חשוב לחקירה מעבדה הסלולר תהליכים כבסיס גלאוקומה פתוגנזה, כמו גם להעריך ולאתר פוטנציאליים התערבויות טיפוליות. מספר מודלים inducible פותחו כדי לייצר ממושכת לחץ תוך-עיני (IOP) גובה, גורם הסיכון החשוב ביותר גלאוקומה. שיטות שהוחלו להעלות את רמת IOP כוללות: הזרקת מלוחים hypertonic ב episcleral הוורידים1, photocoagulation לייזר של trabecular meshwork2 או של ורידים limbal3, ו intracameral הזרקה של חומרים כגון תאי דם רפאים אדום4, גרגרי5,6 ו- viscoelastic סוכנים7. בכל אחת מהגישות יש יתרונות ומגבלות שלה.
