与其他淀粉样蛋白 (包括 prion 蛋白、淀粉样β和α-sycornin) 不同, tau 不会在生理条件下自发聚集, 甚至极端的 ph 或高温也不利于聚集15。这很可能是由于 tau 聚集界面中存在的水相相互作用。然而, 当使用诸如肝素16或其他多阴离子17、18的诱导剂时, tau 会在生理浓度下有效地聚集。
