Los osteoclastos son policaryones de macrófagos específicos de los tejidos derivados del linaje de monocitos y macrófagos de las células madre hematopoyéticas. Este protocolo describe cómo aislar las células de la médula ósea de manera que se obtengan grandes cantidades de osteoclastos reduciendo el riesgo de accidentes encontrados en los métodos tradicionales.
