コレステリック液晶 (LCs) は、内部の螺旋分子の配列1,2,3,4のため明るい反射色を展示する知られています。反射波長λは、 Pと屈折率の平均指数n LC のヘリカル ピッチによって決まります (λ = nP)。キラル添加によるそのような LCs を生成ことができますネマティック (キラル化合物) 化合物とヘリカル ピッチP方程式によって定義されます = 1/βMCβMが螺旋捻転力 (HTP)、 Cは臼歯部キラル不純物の割合です。この概念は、さまざまな光5,6,7、8熱9磁場の10、およびガス11 などの刺激に対応できる様々 なキラル化合物に基づくしてきた。このようなプロパティは、センサー12とレーザー13,14,15他の中などのさまざまな役立つ可能性16,17,18.
