على غرار النهج المتبع في أنظمة الثدييات، الصفات المورفولوجية المستخدمة في البداية على نطاق الجينوم شاشات [رني] في المختبر لتحديد الجينات المطلوبة للاستجابة المناعية الخلوية18،19،20 ،21،،من2223. بيد أن وضع مقايسة البلعمه المجراة في الكبار مكن تجارب متابعة سيضطلع سهولة في الحيوانات كلها، مما يسمح للباحثين للتحقق من البيولوجية دور العوامل التي تم تحديدها في الدراسات في المختبر. وهذا هو الحال مع مستقبلات transmembrane أكلي لحوم البشر، التي حددت لأول مرة كمستقبل بكتيرية في شاشة [رني] استخدام S2 الخلايا24 وثم بعد ذلك سيظهر للتوسط في الإشريكيّة القولونية (كولاي)، البرازية فايكاليس، و المكوّرات العنقودية الذهبية (S. aureus) البلعمه في البالغين25.
