タンパク質は生物に構成的な役割を果たしますが、細胞内環境では継続的に合成、処理、分解されます。さらに、細胞内タンパク質は頻繁に物理的および生化学的に相互作用し、1、2、3の一方または両方の機能に影響を与える。例えば、真核陽子翻訳開始係数4A3(eIF4A3)を用いたスプライセオソーム関連タンパク質ホモロCWC22の直接結合は、エキソン接合複合体4の組み立てに必要である。これと一致して、CWC22に親和性を欠くeIF4A3変異体は、エキソン接合複雑駆動mRNAスプライシング4を容易にすることができない。したがって、タンパク質相互作用の研究は、生理的調節と細胞機能を正確に理解するために重要である。
