פסאודומונס aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa) הוא חיידק שלילי בצורת מוט עם רלוונטיות גוברת לבריאות האדם ומחלות. הוא אחראי על תחלואה נרחבת תמותה בהגדרות מחלה נוזוקומיאלית, במיוחד מעורבים דלקות פצעים בחולים חיסוני1,2. הופעתה של זנים עמידים בפני סמים מרובים של פתוגן זה סיפק תנופה נוספת לחקירת גורמים לתרום P. aeruginosa התקפה אלימה, מנגנונים של P. aeruginosa עמידות לאנטיביוטיקה, ושיטות חדשות למניעה וטיפול של זיהום זה קטלני3. ככזה, הצורך במודלים של בעלי חיים של זיהום הפצע כרונית כמו כלים לחקירת שאלות מחקר אלה מעולם לא היה גדול יותר.

פיתחנו מודל כרוני של P. aeruginosa זיהום הפצע בעכברים הכרוכים החיסון מתעכב עם חיידקים לאחר שפצעו. החיסון העיכוב מאפשר ניסויים בהערכת נטל חיידקי הנמשך לפחות 7 ימים. מודל זה פותח הזדמנויות חדשות עבור חקירת הן פתוגנזה טיפולים חדשים של P. aeruginosa זיהומים כרוניים.
