有许多方法可以观察小鼠肝脏的血管。其中，光学显微镜在观察不透明血管组织3方面有许多局限性。多光子显微镜可用于用非侵入性高分辨率4对活体肝脏的血管进行成像。不仅可以获得血管的三维图像，而且该技术还可用于组织组织观察其中的生物效应：此外，整个组织可以成像，而不仅仅是微维塞尔在计算断层扫描和磁共振成像5。
