Bitkiler, birçoğu kendi büyümeleri, stomatik bakımları ve üremeleri için adaptasyonlar olarak binlerce kimyasal üretir. Östrojenlerin üreme, gelişme ve üreme ve merkezi sinir sistemlerinin düzenlenmesi de dahil olmak üzere çok çeşitli biyolojik işlevleri etkilediği göz önüne alındığında, fitoöstrojenlerin etkilerinin genişliği şaşırtıcı değildir10.
