基本的な生物医学分野では、小動物はヒトの生理機能をシミュレートすることができる。したがって、小動物イメージングは、ヒト相同病の研究を導き、有効な治療1を求める上で重要な役割を果たす。光音響イメージング(PAI)は、光学画像化と超音波画像2の利点を組み合わせた非侵襲的なイメージング技術である。光音響顕微鏡(PAM)は、小型動物3の基礎研究に有用なイメージング法である。PAMは、光学励起および超音波検出4に基づいて、高解像度、深浸透、高特異性および高コントラスト画像を容易に得ることができる。
特定の波長のパルスレーザーは、組織の内因性クロモフォアによって吸収されます。その後、組織の温度が上昇し、光誘導超音波の生成をもたらす。超音波は超音波トランスデューサで検出できます。信号取得と画像再構成後、吸収体の空間分布が5に得られる。一方で、全臓器血管ネットワークの可視化には広い視野が必要である。広視野スキャンのプロセスは、通常、高解像度6、7、8を確保するために長い時間がかかります。一方、小動物の血行力学的活動を観察するには、高速リアルタイムイメージングが必要です。リアルタイムイメージングは、リアルタイム9、10、11で小動物のバイタルサインを研究するのに有益です。リアルタイムイメージングの視野は、通常、高い更新率を確保するのに十分に小さいです。したがって、広い視野を達成することとリアルタイムイメージングを達成することとの間にはトレードオフが存在することが多い。以前は、2つの異なるシステムが、広視野イメージングまたはリアルタイムイメージングに別々に使用されていました。

小動物の血管ネットワークのイメージングは、生物医学の基礎研究において重要な役割を果たしてきました。光音響イメージング技術は、小動物の画像学に応用する大きな可能性を秘めています。小動物の広視野光音響イメージングは、高い時空間分解能、深い浸透、および複数のコントラストを持つ画像を提供することができます。また、リアルタイム光音響イメージングシステムは、小動物の血管系の血行力学的活性を観察することが望ましく、小動物の生理学的特徴の動的モニタリングを研究するために使用することができる。ここでは、デュアルラスタースキャン光音響イメージャーが提示され、切り替え可能なダブルモードイメージング機能を搭載しています。広視野のイメージ投射は2次元の電動翻訳段階によって駆動され、リアルタイムのイメージ投射はガルバノメーターによって実現される。異なるパラメータおよび撮像モードを設定することにより、小動物血管ネットワークの生体内可視化が行える。リアルタイムイメージングを用いて、薬物誘発の脈拍変化や血流変化などを観察することができる。広視野イメージングは、腫瘍血管系の成長変化を追跡するために使用することができる。これらは、基礎生物医学研究の様々な分野で容易に採用されます。
