Dit protocol beschrijft een methode om sociale hiërarchie in een rattenmodel te onderzoeken. Ratten voeren een complexe duik-voor-voedsel-taak uit waarin ze een aparte hiërarchie vormen op basis van hun bereidheid om onder water te duiken en te zwemmen om een voedselkorrel te verkrijgen. Deze methode wordt gebruikt om besluitvorming en sociale relaties tussen zeer sociale dieren in kleine groepen te begrijpen.
