初步研究显示，在灯丝的印刷过程中，超细粒子2、3、4、5、6、7、8及挥发性物质9、10、11、12、13、14、15、16、17、18。超细颗粒可以渗透到呼吸系统，可能更难从身体19清除。在一项与员工定期使用3D打印机的研究中，59%的员工报告有20条呼吸道症状。大多数爱好者的打印机没有密封，没有排气烟气提取设备。因此，排放物会直接释放到环境空气中，吸入后可能会对用户造成风险。
先前的研究侧重于最常用的多乳酸丝（PLA）和丙烯酸二苯二甲苯（ABS）的排放。一些研究分析了不同的灯丝，如尼龙和高冲击聚苯乙烯（HIPS）4，10，13。此外，新的灯丝，提供添加剂，如金属或木材，不断推出市场。这些灯丝使消费者能够打印外观和感觉像天然木材或金属的物体。其他灯丝允许打印含有石墨烯或碳纳米管（CNT）的导电材料21。金属纳米粒子22和CRT显示细胞毒性效应，并造成DNA损伤23。到目前为止，对含有添加剂的丝丝的研究很少。弗洛耶德等人13日分析解放军辅以铜牌;Stabile等人3调查PLA与铜，木材，竹子和灯丝与碳纤维混合。这两项研究都测量了粒子浓度和大小分布，但是释放的粒子的形态和组成并没有进一步研究。特别是高纵横比纳米粒子（HARN），如CN或石棉纤维已知会导致有害健康影响24。Stefaniak等人最近的一项研究分析了带CNT的细丝，并观察到含有可见CNT的可吸入聚合物颗粒的排放。

测量了颗粒物排放和颗粒大小分布，并调查了金属颗粒和CRT的潜在释放。粒子数浓度在105-10 6粒子 /厘米3的范围内，与3D打印机以前的报告相当。透射电子显微镜（TEM）分析显示，不同热塑性材料以及金属颗粒和CRT的纳米粒子。通过电感耦合等离子质谱仪（ICP-MS）观察到金属的高含量。
由于对消费者的潜在风险，这些结果要求谨慎使用 3D 笔。

粒子数浓度 最高峰值颗粒数浓度为PLA铜，为4.8×106 #/cm3， 最低为PLA-Black，4.3 x 105 #/cm3。一般来说，与PLA相比，ABS > 106 #/cm3 的排放量更高。然而，一些解放军灯丝导致颗粒浓度超过106 #/cm3（PLA- 白色和PLA蓝色）。不同的颗粒浓度可能与添加剂的使用有关。张等人28 日指出，颗粒可能由一些添加剂（例如颜料）形成，但并不是由散装材料形成的。因此，不同颜色的颜料使用不同的颜料可能会影响释放的粒子数量。
图 3 显示了打印过程中粒子发射增加的示例，这些示例包括 PLA-黑色和 ABS-黑色。结果与之前的 3D 打印机研究一致，显示颗粒浓度为 105-106 #/cm3， 与 PLA12、13相比，ABS的粒子浓度更高。Floyd 等人13 测量 的峰值浓度为 3.5 x 106 #/cm3 表示 ABS，1.1 x 106 #/cm3 表示 PLA。值得一提的是，ABS的印刷温度一般高于PLA。为了分析打印温度对颗粒释放的影响，在210°C（ABS的标准设定）下进行了使用PLA-Black的实验。结果与解放军200°C的标准设定比较。随着温度设置的提高，颗粒浓度几乎增加了一个数量级。使用 PLA-Black 打印时的平均浓度从 200°C 时的 2.6 x 105 #/cm3 增加到 210°C 时的 1.3 x 106 #/cm3。 在早先对3D打印机3的研究中，已经观察到印刷温度升高导致的排放量升高。
不同细丝排放中的颗粒大小分布 图 4 显示了 PLA 在 200 和 210 °C 时的粒径分布，以及 210°C 时的 ABS 的粒径分布。 与 PLA 相比，打印 ABS 产生的颗粒浓度更高，颗粒更大。PLA打印过程中温度升高导致颗粒数浓度升高，但对几何平均直径（GMD）没有显著影响。这与先前的研究28一致。
图 5 显示了基于所有测量灯丝的编号的 GMD。在用ABS或PLA灯丝打印过程中发射的粒子之间观察到的差异有明显的趋势。ABS样本的最大GMD范围从203.9纳米的 ABS绿色 和高达262.1纳米 的ABS蓝色。 ABS 绿色 是由与其他 ABS 灯丝不同的制造商制造的;这可能是颗粒大小略有不同的原因。PLA 灯丝发射更小的颗粒与 GMD < 100 nm （63.8 nm 为 PLA 清除 高达 88.3 nm PLA-蓝色）.对于其他带添加剂的灯丝，GMD 的范围从 PLA 钢的 73.1 nm 到 PLA 铜 的 183.9 nm。从颗粒尺寸测量的相对标准差 （RSD） 中可以明显看出测量的可重复性。范围大多在0.96和5.58%之间。仅在 PLA 用钢的情况下 （10.55%）和解放军与 CNT （18.52%）观察到更高的范围。然而，这可能是由于灯丝的不均匀性造成的。含有添加剂的产品是热塑性塑料（例如，本例中为PLA）和金属或其他小颗粒的混合物。粒子的分布不均匀，从而可能导致更高的标准偏差。几何标准差介于 1.6 和 1.9 之间，表示细颗粒和超细粒子范围内的单模态分布，如 3D 打印机13 的先前研究所观察到的。
结果表明，PLA和ABS灯丝的颗粒排放量存在显著差异;这还不清楚从以前的出版物，因为往往只有一个或两个灯丝已被分析29。一些作者描述了ABS5，12，一些更大的粒子为PLA2，9。在进一步的研究中，没有发现大小的差异4，13。Byrley等人29日审查了13份出版物，描述了PLA的14.0纳米至108.1纳米和ABS的10.5纳米至88.5纳米的粒子直径。颗粒尺寸的差异可能是由于不同时间点的测量。有的测得的最高浓度为12、13，有的则报告了整个印刷过程的尺寸5、9。迄今为止，唯一一项对3D笔的研究报告，PLA的粒子高达60.4纳米，ABS26的粒子高达173.8纳米，与这里的发现相似。
大小分布度量仅表示一个时刻快照。为了观察发射气溶胶大小的时间变化，在停止打印后每3分钟测量10次，以颗粒大小分布为PLA-Black（图6A）。测量显示，每次连续测量运行时，GMD（图6B）和颗粒浓度（图6C）的减少。颗粒尺寸的增加可能是由于聚集，这也解释了颗粒浓度的降低。有趣的是，这种颗粒尺寸增加和浓度降低的发生不仅在印刷停止后观察到，而且在印刷过程中也观察到。这表明测量时间是一个重要因素。
使用ICP-MS在打印前和打印后对金属含量进行定量 对印刷过程之前和之后含有金属添加剂的灯丝进行比较，发现其金属含量没有差异。这种不变的金属-聚合物比表明释放的颗粒不仅仅是聚合物，因为这将导致印刷材料中由于聚合物损失而产生更高的金属浓度。释放的金属纳米粒子可能意味着更高的健康风险的用户22。一般来说，应注意高级长丝中的金属量大。金属可能会对健康造成不良影响，特别是纳米颗粒的释放需要在日常生活中采取安全预防措施。
对于PLA 铜丝，我们测量的铜的重量百分比为 70。对于钢丝，我们测量了灯丝中 30% 的铁、8% Cr 和 6% Ni 的重量百分比。通常，不声明灯丝的确切组成，因此用户不知道可能的风险。接触镍可能对人类健康有不利影响，并可能导致皮肤过敏、肺纤维化、心血管和肾脏疾病。该元素是疑似人类致癌物质31。
除了金属丝，在印刷 前和 印刷后对解放军的透明进行了分析。在这里，在印刷过程后测量了Cu、Zn、Fe、Cr和Ni的增加。这可能是由于之前通过 3D 笔提取了其他材料，并产生了内存效果。使用新购买的 3D 笔重复测量，此处未观察到显著增加（图 7）。
使用 TEM 的粒子形态 TEM图像证实了粒子的存在，并验证了ABS和PLA之间的颗粒大小差异，用SMPS测量。TEM图像显示，PLA的颗粒大小大多在50纳米左右（图8A）。ABS黑色显示几乎一致较大的粒子高达100纳米（图8B）。从SMPS中可以证实PLA和ABS之间的颗粒大小差异。然而，较小的尺寸是由TEM测量的。较小的尺寸可能是由于SMPS测量颗粒集聚物，如前所述，和TEM图像显示非聚集粒子。
PLA铜丝含有铜和PLA颗粒（图8C）。铜的晶体形状大多为150纳米。这符合铜丝的SMPS测量，导致平均GMD为178纳米（图5）。图 8D可能描绘了PLA-CNT 灯丝中释放的 CNT。此外，还观察到用PLA钢丝在印刷过程中释放出小钢颗粒（图8E）。铝丝被描述为"PLA化合物 - 与令人难以置信的高量银铝片添加"32。图 8F显示了这些薄片的聚集，因为与使用 SMPS 测量的 124 nm 的 GMD 相比，其大小要大得多。

3D 打印机和笔可能会发出颗粒和挥发性物质。我们开发了一种分析 3D 笔排放的方法。我们的方法简单，易于实施，设置经济高效。它可用于描述用户呼吸区附近的颗粒排放。此技术还可用于分析来自其他来源和设备（如喷雾产品或消融过程）的气溶胶排放。在开始实验之前，请选择能够产生温度超过 200 摄氏度的 3D 打印笔，并选择直径为 1.75 毫米的长丝，适合 3D 笔。清洁干燥器内部，一侧有一个入口，用于插入 3D 打印笔，顶部有一个出口，用于插入采样管。确保与 3D 笔的连接时有一个进气口。出口管应距离 3D 打印笔的尖端 10 厘米，以模拟用户头部与发射源之间的距离。在开始 3D 笔气溶胶排放测量前 10 分钟，打开 CPC 和 SNP 在线测量仪器，并预装带感兴趣的灯丝的 3D 笔。当笔冷却后，将 HEPA 过滤器连接到 SMPS 入口，然后使用 SMPS 运行清洁检查测量，以确保 SMPS 不会受到先前测量的污染。将腔室出口连接到 CPC 入口，并使用 CPC 检查腔室内的浓度，以确保腔室清洁，并确保实验在相同条件下运行。要测量 3D 笔气溶胶排放，请将预装和冷却的 3D 笔插入腔室，并确保腔室的出水管与 CPC 相连。启动连接到 CPC 的计算机并打开一个新文件，其名称适合进行测量。确保 CPC 流量设置为每分钟 0.3 升，并测量背景浓度 10 分钟。在测量结束时，打开 3D 笔并选择适合加载的灯丝的温度。达到灯丝温度后，开始打印过程，让 3D 笔打印 15 分钟。在打印期结束时，将出口管连接到 SMPS，并每三分钟获取一次尺寸分布测量，然后进行 30 分钟。获得所有测量值后，拆下打印的灯丝并清洁腔室。要通过电感耦合等离子体质谱法来量化样品制备，请将感兴趣的长丝打印在塑料表面上，以避免金属污染，并使用陶瓷刀将长丝切割成更小的碎片。称出约150毫克的散装和印刷长丝，并转移丝片到微波容器。在每个样品中加入1.5毫升水、3.5毫升硝酸和1毫升过氧化氢。将容器放入微波炉中，将样品加热至200摄氏度，20分钟。在消化结束时，稀释超纯水中的所有细丝样品，避免仪器受到污染，因为超纯水已知或怀疑这些细丝样品具有高金属浓度。然后使用调查扫描确定样品中哪些金属，并使用适当的校准标准量化特定金属的金属含量。正如所观察到的，与用PLA黑色打印相比，在打印过程中释放的ABS黑色颗粒数量更高。在PLA打印过程中增加温度，导致颗粒数浓度升高，对颗粒的几何平均直径无显著影响。与使用 PLA 打印相比，使用 ABS 进行打印可产生高颗粒数浓度和更大的颗粒。如预期，在用 ABS 和 PLA 灯丝打印过程中发射的粒子之间，几何平均直径的差异明显。传输电子显微镜成像显示的颗粒大小，主要是约50纳米，用于PLA，几乎一致较大的粒子高达100纳米，ABS黑色。PLA铜丝含有铜，大部分是晶体形式以及PLA颗粒。在这张图片中，可能观察到从PLA碳纳米管灯丝中释放出的碳纳米管。在用 PLA 钢丝打印时释放出的小钢颗粒，以及在用 PLA 化合物进行打印时可能聚集的银铝片，其银铝片量也高得令人难以置信。通过ICPMS的在线耦合进一步分析气溶胶，对于电感耦合等离子体质谱法来说，有助于对发射方法的澄清。我们的快速且经济高效的方法还可用于识别其他可能受益于气溶胶特性的颗粒排放。
