脳静脈静脈血栓症(CVST)は、脳卒中の全原因のわずか0.5〜1.0%を占めるが、小児および若年成人において比較的高い発生率を有する脳静脈系の稀な疾患である。解剖の間に、CVSTは脳血管疾患死亡の10%の原因であることが判明した2.血栓症は頭蓋内静脈系の任意の部分で起こり得る。上矢状のSSSはCVSTの最も一般的に影響される区域の1つであり、複数の血管を含むことができる。静脈洞の狭窄または閉塞のために、頭蓋内静脈戻りが遮断され、頭蓋内圧が上昇する場合が多い3。CVSTの臨床症状は複雑であり、時間の経過とともに変化する。症状の特異性の欠如があるが、最も一般的な症状は、頭痛(77.2%)、発作(42.7%)、および神経学的欠損(39.9%)を含む。重症例では、昏睡状態、さらには死亡が4、5に起こる。近年、医療・健康水準の全体的な改善と公衆衛生意識の向上により、関連する危険因子の割合が変化し、外傷や感染の割合が減少し、妊娠、プエルペリウム、経口避妊薬等によるCVSTの割合が徐々に増加している。
現在のところ、CVSTの病因はまだ十分に理解されていない。CVSTを深く探索するには、さらなる病態生理学的研究が必要である。しかし、これらの研究方法のほとんどは侵襲的であり、したがって臨床的に実施することは困難である。臨床研究の多くの制限により、動物モデルは基礎研究と翻訳研究の面でかけがえのない利点を有する。
