くも膜下出血後数週間に起こる脳血管れん縮は、出血性脳卒中の一種であり、脳虚血の遅延に寄与する。SAHのマウスモデルを用いた実験研究で遭遇する問題は、マウスにおける脳血管れん縮の インビボ モニタリングの方法が欠けていることである。ここでは、マウスに対して経頭蓋二重超音波検査を行う高周波超音波の応用を示す。この方法を用いて、内頸動脈(ICA)を同定することができた。頭蓋内ICAの血流速度はSAHの誘導後に有意に加速したが、頭蓋外のICAの血流速度は低いままであり、脳血管れん縮を示す。結論として、ここで示す方法は、マウスSAHモデルにおける脳血管れん縮の機能的、非侵襲的な インビボ モニタリングを可能にする。
