החלפת מסתם ריאתי טרנסקטטר נקבעה כגישה חלופית בת קיימא לחולים הסובלים ממערכת זרימה בחדר ימין או מתפקוד לקוי של מסתם ביו-פרוסטטי, עם תוצאות קליניות מוקדמות ומאוחרות מצוינות. עם זאת, יש לטפל באתגרים קליניים כגון הידרדרות במסתם הלב, חסימה כלילית, אנדוקרדיטיס וסיבוכים אחרים ליישום לכל החיים, במיוחד בחולי ילדים. כדי להקל על פיתוח פתרון לכל החיים לחולים, בוצעה החלפת מסתם ריאתי אוטולוגי טרנסקטטר במודל כבשים בוגר. קרום הלב האוטולוגי נקטף מהכבשים באמצעות מיני-אורקוטומיה אנטרולטרלית שמאלית בהרדמה כללית עם אוורור. קרום הלב הונח על מודל תלת-ממדי של מסתם לב לצורך חיבור צולב לא רעיל למשך יומיים ו-21 שעות. אקוקרדיוגרפיה תוך-לבבית (ICE) ואנגיוגרפיה בוצעו כדי להעריך את המיקום, המורפולוגיה, התפקוד והממדים של המסתם הריאתי המקומי (NPV). לאחר החיתוך, קרום הלב המוצלב נתפר על סטנט ניטינול הניתן להרחבה עצמית והתכווץ למערכת אספקה בעיצוב עצמי. המסתם הריאתי האוטולוגי (APV) הושתל במצב NPV באמצעות צנתור ורידים ג'וגולריים שמאליים. ICE ואנגיוגרפיה חזרו על עצמם כדי להעריך את המיקום, המורפולוגיה, הפונקציה והממדים של ה-APV. APV הושתל בהצלחה בכבשה J. במאמר זה נבחרה כבשה ג'יי כדי לקבל תוצאות מייצגות.
