在这项研究中，使用8种不同浓度（1%-3%）的MDa聚环氧乙烷（PEO）溶液来验证商用台式流变仪（材料表）的测量范围，并将获得的浓度依赖曲线直接与使用传统体积流变仪获得的测量值进行比较（材料表).然后使用支气管镜下从患有哮喘持续状态（SA）的插管患者中采集的粘液来评估流变学测量的可重复性，这是一种极端形式的哮喘急性发作，其特征在于支气管痉挛，嗜酸性粒细胞炎症和粘液对环境或感染因子的过度产生8，20.在这种情况下，SA患者因严重呼吸衰竭而插管，并且需要ECMO（体外膜肺氧合），因为尽管采用积极的标准哮喘治疗，但无法仅通过机械通气有效安全地支持患者。在临床指征的支气管镜检查肺叶塌陷期间，注意到厚实、透明、顽强的分泌物会阻塞支气管，并使用盐水冲洗液抽吸。收集后，立即从抽吸物中除去多余的盐水，并使用台式装置分析剩余SA样品的粘弹性。用还原剂三（2-羧乙基）盐酸膦（TCEP）处理其他样品等分试样，以确定该方案是否可用于表征 治疗化合物的离体疗效。
