ננו-חלקיקים ביומימטיים המתקבלים מחיידקים או מווירוסים משכו עניין רב במחקר ובפיתוח חיסונים. שלפוחיות הממברנה החיצונית (OMVs) מופרשות בעיקר על ידי חיידקים גראם-שליליים במהלך גדילה ממוצעת, עם קוטר בגודל ננומטרי ופעילות אדג'ובנטית עצמית, שעשויה להיות אידיאלית להעברת חיסונים.
