目前通过原位透射电镜对涂层Si NPs进行（脱）锂化的过程仅限于快速筛选以找到潜在的涂层材料。入围的候选涂层必须在实际的ASSB中进行测试。通过聚焦离子束在微机电系统（MEMS）上制备的微电池原位偏置研究可以提供有关界面离子传输机理的进一步信息6，11。
这种涂层筛选技术可以通过用钠代替锂来适应基于钠离子的ASSB。

今天，锂离子电池无处不在，从智能手机和笔记本电脑等各种电子设备到电动汽车，其数量急剧上升，以摆脱以化石燃料为基础的经济1，2。随着这种不断增加，锂离子电池的安全特性成为高度优先的要求3。传统锂离子电池中通常使用的液体电解质是易燃的，尤其是在较高的工作电压和温度下。相比之下，在全固态电池（ASSB）中使用不易燃的固体电解质可降低易燃性的风险4。这和潜在的高能量密度使ASSB在过去几年中成为研究的焦点。然而，ASSB中的固体-固体电解质-电极界面带来了与传统的液-固电极-电解质界面5完全不同的挑战。ASSB中使用的许多电解质对锂和阴极在化学和/或电化学上都不稳定。因此，电极-电解质界面处的分解反应导致钝化层的形成，导致离子传输受限和内阻增加，导致电池循环中的容量下降6。防止这种反应的最常见方法之一是在电极和/或电解质上涂覆涂层，以确保电极-电解质之间没有直接接触并产生稳定的界面。为此，目前正在研究不同的电子和离子导电涂层7，8。
理想涂层的主要要求是：它必须允许离子传导;不得增加电池的内阻;并且它必须在许多电池循环中保持化学和机械稳定性。涂层厚度、单层或多层以及理想的涂层工艺等其他问题对于ASSB的商业化是主要关注点。因此，需要一种筛选方法来找出最佳的涂层。
透射电子显微镜（TEM）已被用于研究ASSB中高达原子尺度9，10的固-固界面。此外，operando TEM提供了在TEM内构建微型电池并研究电池循环过程中电池过程的可能性。为了跟踪电池中的锂离子运动，需要高分辨率成像11。然而，在整个实验过程中，这种高分辨率成像固有的高电子束剂量可能会改变电化学途径。另一种方法是涂在硅纳米颗粒（NPs）上并进行（脱）锂化的涂层。在操作TEM实验中，由于Si纳米颗粒在（脱）锂化过程中的高体积变化，可以在低放大倍率下监测锂化过程12，13，14。因此，可以在相对较低的电子剂量下监测整个电池循环过程。此外，由于Si的高体积变化而在涂层上产生的应力将类似于在多个循环中在涂层上产生的应力。因此，还可以探测涂层的长期机械稳定性。本文旨在通过不同厚度的TiO2涂层示例，分享如何进行这种操作TEM实验来筛选潜在的ASSB涂层。该协议将解释将涂层Si NP加载到原位TEM支架上，观察TEM中涂层Si NP的锂化，并分析TEM图像。

图 3 显示了在 5 nm 和 10 nm TiO 2 涂层的 Si/SiO2颗粒上锂化的一系列 TEM 图像。在5 nm镀膜的情况下，整个区域发生显著膨胀，并且在巨大膨胀过程中涂层没有破裂。在10 nm涂层的情况下，即使锂化时间较长，也发生了相对较小的膨胀，并且在2 min后涂层破裂。从膨胀量和涂层破损量来看，5 nm涂层有望比10 nm涂层显示出更好的容量和耐用性。
颗粒膨胀量可以通过图像处理获得，如图 4所示。5 nm 涂层外壳显示大约 2 倍的面膨胀，而 10 nm 涂层外壳仅显示 1.2 倍的面扩展。5 nm 涂层外壳的膨胀速度比 10 nm 涂层外壳快六倍。
