עיוות קיפוטי Thoracolumbar היא מחלה ראשונית או משנית הנגרמת בדרך כלל על ידי שבר בחוליות, התפתחות גוף החוליות, ספונדיליטיס ankylosing, ושחפת עמוד השדרה 1,2,3,4. עיוות קיפוטי חמור גורם לעיתים קרובות לדחיסת חוט השדרה או לכאבי גב תחתון חמורים. ברגע שהטיפול השמרני הופך ללא יעיל, יש צורך בגישה כירורגית בשל הסיבוכים הנגרמים על ידי העיוות. עם זאת, הטיפול הכירורגי המתאים נותר שנוי במחלוקת.
