Mens de typisk er meget ledende for biologiske processer, komplicerer deres iboende biologiske aktivitet undersøgelsen af påvirkninger af enkelte parametre. Her kan vi selektivt tilføje vores spillere af interesse og vurdere, hvordan systemet ændrer sig.
Den sekventielle såning af celler på vores syntetiske hydrogeler muliggør dannelsen af meget definerede nicher. Her koloniserer hBMMS'er hydrogelerne og deponerer deres iboende ekstracellulære matrix. Dette giver substratet for de efterfølgende podede endotelceller.
Denne funktion er ikke almindeligt forekommende i andre 3D in vitro modeller. Muligheden for at tilføje forskellige celletyper sekventielt giver mulighed for oprettelse af in vitro-modeller, der er kompatible med høj kapacitet, med stor kompleksitet. Disse modeller kan tilpasses til at generere mere specifikke osteogene vaskulariserede nicher og til at undersøge funktionerne hos cellulære og molekylære spillere.
