In deze presentatie hebben we ons gericht op de 3D-visualisatie van de interne anatomie van een chelicerate micro-geleedpotigen. Het synchrotron X-ray metingen laten een pixel-resolutie van beneden naar 0.3μm, afhankelijk van de grootte van de steekproef. Hier hebben we laten zien data met 0.7μm pixel-resolutie. In het algemeen kan synchrotron X-ray tomografie nuttig zijn voor het analyseren van kleine biologische materialen (of weefsels) met een lage X-ray demping. Er is weinig bekend over de interne organisatie van een groot aantal micro-arthropoden met het lichaam maten hieronder 1 mm. De redenen daarvoor zijn de geringe omvang en de harde cuticula waardoor het moeilijk te gebruiken protocollen van de klassieke histologie. Daarnaast, histologische coupes vernietigt het monster en kan dus niet worden gebruikt voor uniek materiaal. Vandaar dat een niet-destructieve methode is wenselijk dat het mogelijk maakt om in kleine voorbeelden te bekijken zonder de noodzaak van snijden. We gebruikten synchrotron X-ray tomografie bij de European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) in Grenoble (Frankrijk) naar niet-invasieve 3D tomografie datasets te produceren met een pixel-resolutie van 0.7μm. Met behulp van volume rendering software, dit laat ons toe om de interne organisatie in zijn natuurlijke staat te reconstrueren zonder dat de artefacten die door histologische coupes. Deze datum kan worden gebruikt voor de kwantitatieve morfologie, monumenten of voor de visualisatie van geanimeerde filmpjes om de structuur van verborgen lichaamsdelen te begrijpen en aan te vullen orgaansystemen of weefsels te volgen via de monsters.
